On stage at Trump rally in Beaumont, Texas, woman breaks down and tells Trump, 'You're our only hope'-Jenna Johnson, Washington Post twitter

11/14/15,  "Donald Trump says tough gun control laws in Paris contributed to tragedy," Washington Post, Jenna Johnson, Beaumont, Texas

"Donald Trump says the tough gun control laws in Paris contributed to the high death toll during a series of terrorist attacks on Friday. The attacks, he added, also reveal the danger in allowing Syrian refugees into the country.

"You can say what you want, but if they had guns -- if our people had guns, if they were allowed to carry -- it would have been a much, much different situation," Trump said to cheers during a political rally at an arena in southeast Texas on Saturday afternoon. "I hear it all the time, you know. You look at certain cities that have the highest violence, the highest problem with guns and shootings and killings -- Chicago is an example, toughest gun laws in the United States, nothing but problems. So our country better get smart because we're not smart right now."

By making that comment, Trump doubled down on a message he tweeted in January, following a smaller-scale terrorist attack: "Isn't it interesting that the tragedy in Paris took place in one of the toughest gun control countries in the world?" As that dated tweet recirculated on Friday evening, the French ambassador to the United States, Gerard Araud, tweeted at Trump: "This message is repugnant in its lack of any human decency. Vulture.""...

Regarding the tweet mentioned above, Rolling Stone notes many people responded to it not realizing it was sent in January:

11/14/15, "Trump: Paris Would've Been 'Different Situation' If Victims Had Guns," Rolling Stone, Lauren Kelley

"Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Saturday that the recent terrorist attacks in Paris would've been "a much, much different situation" if the victims of the violence had been armed with guns....
............
According to the Associated Press, Trump also said it would be "insane" for the United States to allow Syrian refugees into the country after the tragedy....And he held a moment of silence for the Paris victims.

In the wake of the January (2015) Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, Trump tweeted a similar sentiment:

(That tweet was widely recirculated in the wake of Friday's attacks, with many people mistaking which "tragedy in Paris" Trump was referring to.)"

====================

Comment: I guess it's all sophisticated and French to invite brutal killers to live in your midst. The French people are as asleep as they were in 1940 when they allowed Germany to occupy them. M. Araud, a government that allows continuous slaughter of its own citizens is "repugnant" and lacking in "human decency" if not criminal. The French government should resign immediately. It hides its bloody hands behind name calling.

11/14/15, "What Parisians Need Are Guns, Trump Says," Bloomberg, Kevin Cirelli
"Trump's appearance in Cruz' home state caused excitement in conservative Jefferson County, a part of the oil patch where candidates usually come for more intimate fundraisers. Local Republican Party Chairman Billy Oliver said there hasn't been a rally like Trump's "in years."

"He's saying things no one says," said Oliver. "People are fed up and he seems to really understand that."" (end of article)
