End US War Machine: AP ClimateGate figure Seth Borenstein says 'climate science' changing focus to 'headline grabbing' events like Halloween snowstorm

Rather than 'subtle' changes in temperature which don't show dead bodies. Even so, bad news for AP's ClimateGate emailer (July 23, 2009), Seth Borenstein, the Halloween storm wasn't due to global warming. Advocates will nevertheless be using "headline grabbing" events such as this from now on to market their industry (parag. 4):

The article starts with the text

While the Northeast is still reeling from a surprise October snowstorm that has left more than a million people without power for days, the United Nations is about to release its latest document on adaptation to climate change.

The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is expected conclude that there is a high probability that man-made greenhouse gases already are causing extreme weather that has cost governments, insurers, businesses and individuals billions of dollars. And it is certain to predict that costs due to extreme weather will rise and some areas of the world will become more perilous places to live.”

The historic snowstorm in the northeast United States a few days ago was due to an unusually far south Polar jet stream for this time of the year, and colder than average temperatures associated with the east coast storm. To claim that this event fits with the IPCC climate change predictions is ridiculous. The article reads

as an op-ed in the guise of a news article.

Seth and his pals desperate for an excuse that 2010 Russian fires were proof of CO2 poison that can only be cured by the death of America and its annoying middle class (which Holdren already claims):

"There's an 80 percent chance that the killer Russian heat wave of 2010 wouldn't have happened without the added push of global warming, according to a study published last week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences."...(See below on Russian fires, NOAA said were due to natural causes).

(In Sept. 2010 Holdren stated that nothing in the 2007 UN IPCC report had been 'called into question.' That is of course false. Then he references the Russian fires):

(Scroll to "Slide 18"): "[SLIDE 18] So do we have good reason to believe that humans are causing this (global warming) primarily? Yes, we do. This is the IPCC’s assessment in the 2007 report. No part of this has been called into question by the way."...

He references Russian fires during the summer in 2010 being due to man-caused global warming. This is another falsehood and easy to check. It has already been stated the Russian fires were entirely due to natural causes. NOAA documentation posted below.

This NOAA government document reflects its belief in global warming but explains why the "Russia fires" had nothing to do with it and were due to natural causes:

(para. 10): "Whereas an event of this magnitude was unexpected for the summer of 2010, and indeed there was little if any advance warming from long lead seasonal forecasts, it is nonetheless important to assess the factors that may have been responsible for such an extreme heat wave. There is strong evidence that the immediate cause can be placed at the doorstep of an extreme pattern of atmospheric winds—widely referred to as blocking. In the situation of anticyclonic blocking such as developed over western Russia in early July 2010, the normal west-to-east movement of weather systems is inhibited, with the center of a blocking experiencing persistently quiescent weather.

Blocks are not an uncommon occurrence over Eurasia in summer, with a episodes of July blocking in the region between 0-60ºE evident during the past half century (Figure 5). This region is vulnerable to episodes of blocking owing to physical factors related to the region's location downstream of the Atlantic westerly jet....

The extreme surface warmth over western Russia during July and early August is mostly a product of the strong and persistent blocking high. Surface temperatures soared as a result of the combination of clear skies, sinking motion within the environment of the high pressure causing compressional heating of air, the lack of any temporary relief owing to the blocking of the typical cold fronts that cool the region intermittently in summer. Add to this scenario the cumulative effect of drought that began in early summer which caused soils to dry and plants to desiccate to wilting point, thereby causing additional surface warming via land feedbacks as the blocking condition persisted.
