3/4/22, “Ukraine and U.S. Embassy Kyiv Try to Bait NATO Into Conflict Using Coordinated Fear Campaign Over Nuclear Power Plant,” sundance
“The coordinated propaganda campaign designed to sway western opinion over Ukraine has reached dangerous proportions.
Last night the Ukrainian government, in close coordination with the U.S. State Department, tried to establish a position for NATO intervention based on false stories of a nuclear power plant meltdown (Zaporizhzhia) in the southeastern Ukraine city of Enerhodar.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appeared on television overnight claiming NATO needed to get involved or a catastrophe far greater than the Chernobyl accident was imminent. “You know the word Chernobyl,” Zelenskyy said with maximum drama for impact.
Almost immediately, the U.S. State Dept then began promoting the crisis, “It is a war crime to attack a nuclear power plant. Putin’s shelling of Europe’s largest nuclear plant takes his reign of terror one step further,” the message from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv claimed, and the war machine published a phone call between Joe Biden and Zelenskyy over the issue.
However, in a clear exhibition of how Ukraine propaganda is now extreme and desperate,
everything about the claim was false.
This morning, in an effort to save face and hide the intent of their propaganda, the U.S. State Department began trying to cover themselves, as evidenced by CNN narrative engineer Natasha Bertran.
Setting aside for a moment the latest example of CNN/CNNi being the official state media for the U.S. State Dept, propaganda can backfire when the claims are too outrageous. The State Dept is now doing damage control using their CNN public relations unit.
The reality of the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant was far less alarming than all of the spin from the Ukraine government and the U.S. State Department.”…

The last thing Russia would do is to target a nuclear facility unless they wanted to stop fighting and devote themselves to repairing it. Second, as in fact happened, the news cycle cluster bombs began bright and early with “Chernobyl” comparisons. This is standard, hateful US procedure as we’ve seen for 12 years with its criminal war on Syria. US propaganda is always ugly and always aims first to make life much sadder and much harder for US taxpayers thousands of miles away enslaved to a global genocide machine. For the present, Russia’s “version,” this one presented at the UN Security Council, should have at least equal value to the US/Davos/Ukraine version:
3/4/22, “Russia Claims Ukrainians Set Fire Near Zaporizhzhia Power Plant Themselves,” Newsweek, Fatma Khaled
“Vasily Nebenzya, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations on Friday accused “Ukrainian saboteurs” of setting fire to a building near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as the Russian invasion into Ukraine continues.
The ambassador said that a Russian mobile patrol was present at a territory that is adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is Europe’s largest one, and claimed that they were attacked by a Ukrainian “sabotage group in order to provoke return fire on the building.”
“There was a heavy small fire that was opened on Russian troops from the windows of several floors of the training complex that is located just outside the territory of the nuclear power plant,” he said during a U.N. Security Council meeting on Friday. “The Russian patrol returned fire on the firing points of the Ukrainian saboteurs in the building of the training complex. As they were leaving, the Ukrainian sabotage group set fire to the training facility,” adding, “Let me emphasize once again that this building is not located on the territory of this Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.”
The attack was reported Thursday night when Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed on Twitter that Russian troops were attacking the nuclear power plant, which is located around 400 miles from Kyiv.
“Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broke out. If it blows up,
it will be 10 times larger than Chernobyl!
Russians must IMMEDIATELY cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone!” he tweeted.
The International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) director-general, Rafael Mariano Grossi, said on Friday that a “projectile” hit a training facility at the plant that is not part of the reactor.
“It’s important to say that all the safety systems of the six reactors at the plant were not affected at all, and that there has been no release of radioactive material,” he said. “[There is] no release of radioactive material.”
Still, the attack on the plant sparked global concerns, with officials saying that Ukrainian firefighters were unable to access the fire at first, but eventually were able to put out the flames. However, Russian troops now have control over the plant.
The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv called the attack a “war crime” and said Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s decision to shell the plant “takes his reign of terror one step further.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack “nuclear terrorism” committed by Russia.
He added that if an explosion had happened as a result of the attack, it could have caused a critical situation that would have been equal to “six Chernobyls.” The Chernobyl power plant had four nuclear plants, but only one exploded in 1986.
Over half of Ukraine’s nuclear reactors were offline as of Friday after Russian forces took control over the nuclear power plant. Eight of the 15 reactors located in Ukraine were disconnected from the power grid as of March 4, according to the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
Newsweek contacted the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine for comment and will update the story once a response is received.”

3/4/22, [“The building [allegedly] hit was a training center and “not part of the reactor.” “No Radiation Leak at [training center nearby] Ukrainian Nuclear Powerplant After Fighting,” Dave DeCamp, AntiWar.com
No radiation was released [because the alleged fire was only at a training center, not the reactor itsef] by a fire that [allegedly] started during fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces at the [training center of] Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Ukrainian officials said on Friday.
The fire broke out at a training building outside of Zaporizhzhia’s main reactor complex, and Ukraine’s emergency services said that Ukrainian firefighters had extinguished the blaze.
Rafael Grossi, the head of the IAEA, said the training building was [allegedly] hit by a Russian “projectile” during fighting around the facility. Ukrainian authorities said Russian troops have taken over the site, but Ukrainians are still operating the plant.
Enerhoatom, Ukraine’s state nuclear operator, said three Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the fighting. Grossi said two people were injured by the fire at the training building.
For their part, Russia is telling a much different story and is blaming the fire on Ukrainian saboteurs. According to Reuters, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that the nuclear plant had been under Russian control since February 28 and was operating normally.
Konashenkov said early in the morning on March 4, Russian troops came under fire from the windows of the training building. He said the Russians returned fire and that the “sabotage group” set the fire as they abandoned the training building.
There’s no way to verify [either Ukraine’ or] Russia’s claims, and conflicting accounts of battles have been common [during all wars in history] since Russia invaded.
When the incident at Zaporizhzhia was first reported, Ukrainian officials warned an explosion of the plant’s reactors could be worse than Chernobyl.
“Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broke out. If it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chornobyl!” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote on Twitter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video to Facebook on the attack where he urged for more Western action in the conflict. “Only immediate European action can stop Russian troops,” he said.
At the UN, the US and its allies condemned Russia for its alleged attack. “Russia’s [alleged] attack last night put Europe’s largest nuclear power plant at grave risk. It was incredibly reckless and dangerous. And it threatened the safety of civilians across Russia, Ukraine and Europe,”
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.
On Twitter, the US Embassy in Kyiv said attacking a nuclear power plant is a “war crime,” but the State Department is reportedly urging other embassies not to share the tweet, according to an internal memo obtained by NBC and CNN.
“All – do not/not retweet Embassy Kyiv’s tweet on shelling of the facility being a possible war crime” the message reportedly reads. “If you have retweeted it – un-retweet it ASAP.” It’s not clear why the memo was sent, but the US’s ally Israel frequently launches covert attacks against Iranian nuclear facilities.”
