Obama thought his March 2012 offer to collude with Putin to help Obama win his “last election” was off the record:

Added: Text of Obama’s urgent, off the record message in March 2012 to Putin that he would deliver what Putin wants after Obama’s “last election,” when he would “have more flexibility:”
Mr. Obama was talking with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev when neither of them realized their conversation was being picked up by microphones.
They said the following:
Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space.”
Medvedev: “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…”
Obama: “This is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility.”
Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”…
Mr. Obama seems anxious to be unshackled from the American voters so he can do as he wishes.
Mr. Obama had already retreated from the missile defense plan negotiated with European allies during George W. Bush administration. Apparently, he is signaling Moscow that he intends to retreat further– but he dares not tell the American people before the election what he plans to do after the election.

“President Barack Obama was caught on microphone telling Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more flexibility after November’s election to deal with contentious issues such as missile defence.”
“And Mr Medvedev finishes: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir [Putin].”

Once they were made public, the White House said Mr Obama’s words reflected the reality that domestic political concerns in the both the US and Russia this year [not comparable since Russia’s 2012 elections had already taken place as
reported below] would make it difficult to fully address their
long-standing differences over the contentious issue of missile defence.
Mr Obama, should he win re-election, would not have to face voters again….
Tensions over missile defence have threatened to upend the overall thawing of relations between the U.S. and Russia in recent years….
Russia has been strongly critical of plans for US-led Nato missile defence in Europe. Russian officials believe the planned missile shield would target Russia’s nuclear deterrent and undermine global stability, while the US [Obama] insists the planned missile shield is intended to counter threats from Iran.
Mr Putin said earlier this month that Washington’s refusal to offer Moscow written guarantees that its missile defence system would not be aimed against Russia deepened its concerns.
Putin won elections held earlier this year and will return to the presidency later this spring [2012]. He is expected to name Medvedev prime minister.
The US and Russia have also clashed recently over their approach to dealing with violence in Syria. The U.S. has sharply criticised Russia for opposing UN Security Council action calling on Syria’s president to leave power.
Mr Obama said Monday that despite past differences on Syria, he and Medvedev agreed they both support UN envoy Kofi Annan’s efforts to end the violence in Syria and move the country towards a “legitimate” government.
The apparent gaffe is the second such incident in less than six months that Mr Obama has been involved in.
In November [2011], Mr Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy of France inadvertently broadcast a private exchange, during which the French president said he could not “bear” Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister.
Mr Obama in return said: “You may be sick of him, but me, I have to deal with him every day.”

9/6/2012, “Putin on U.S. Vote: Obama ‘Genuine,’ Romney ‘Mistaken’,” Wall St. Journal, James Marso, Lukas I. Alpert, Moscow
“Russian President Vladimir Putin said the re-election of President Barack Obama could improve relations with the U.S., but that he was also prepared to work with Mitt Romney, calling the Republican candidate’s tough stance on Russia “pre-election rhetoric.”
In contrast to what had been viewed as a chilly attitude toward Mr. Obama, Mr. Putin called his U.S. counterpart “a genuine person” who “really wants to change much for the better.” Speaking to Russia’s state-run RT television channel, he said a second Obama term could help solve disputes over missile defense….
Relations with Russia first heated up the campaign in March [2012], when Mr. Obama was inadvertently caught on an open microphone telling Mr. Putin’s predecessor, Dmitry Medvedev, that he would have “more flexibility” after the election to address Russia’s concerns over the proposed U.S. antimissile shield in Europe.
The U.S. says the defense system is designed to protect against a possible missile attack from Iran, but Moscow says the interceptors could neuter Russia’s nuclear arsenal….
Mr. Romney said Russia was America’s “No. 1 geopolitical foe.” Mr. Putin said such talk was “mistaken” electioneering, adding he was prepared to work with whomever Americans elect.
He [Putin] warned, however, that a Romney victory could complicate attempts to resolve Russia’s opposition to the shield.
“Our American partners tell us, ‘It’s not [aimed] against you.’ But what if the president of the United States will be Mr. Romney, who considers us enemy No. 1?” he told RT in the interview, recorded Monday and broadcast Thursday.
In his broadest public comments since returning to office in May, Mr. Putin also stuck firmly to his position against outside intervention to end violence in Syria [a position he held for 3 more years until finally intervening in 2015] and brushed off Western criticism that he is cracking down on the nascent antigovernment protest movement in Russia. He said Russia, which has vetoed three U.N. Security Council resolutions aimed at pressuring the Syrian authorities to end violence [the Feb. 2012 resolution also vetoed by China specifically called for regime change, for Syria Pres. Assad to step down], wouldn’t shift its stance.
“Why should only Russia re-evaluate its position?” he said. “Maybe our partners in the negotiation process should re-evaluate their position.”
He suggested that efforts to aid militants in bringing down the regime of President Bashar al-Assad would backfire and create a situation like that seen in Afghanistan after the defeat of the Soviet Union by mujahedeen fighters.
He said that would undermine efforts to tackle global terrorism and that the U.S. may as well “open the gates to Guantanamo and let all the Guantanamo inmates into Syria, let them fight. It’s the same thing.””…

Comment: Why isn't media concerned about Obama presidential “secret” offer to collude with Putin in order to sway the upcoming 2012 election? Not only was Obama not impeached for it, he was re-elected in Nov. 2012. This example is for the “Murder Putin” crowd in the media. Well-informed people want US relations with Russia to be normalized. We see US war profiteers as the problem, not Putin. The most important issue for us is that the US southern border be blockaded. In any case, we don’t believe US taxpayers should be forced to murder Putin or bomb innocent Russian people, villages, and towns. Susan
