OligarchGate: In June 2016 Obama State Dept. official Victoria Nuland while on the payroll of US taxpayers set up a meeting between FBI and British subject and British business owner, Christopher Steele, so that he might present his anti-Trump material. Steele's status as an FBI informant was set up while he was simultaneously employed as a political operative for Mrs. Clinton's campaign-UK Guardian, Daily Caller

UK Guardian, 11/15/2017: "One of the reasons his [British subject and British business owner Christopher Steele's] dossier was taken seriously in Washington in 2016 was Steele’s reputation in the US for producing reliable reports on Russia, according to Harding’s book. 

Between 2014 and 2016, he authored more than a hundred reports on Russia and Ukraine, which were commissioned by private clients but shared widely within the [US] state department and passed across the desks of the secretary of state, John Kerry, and the assistant secretary Victoria Nuland....
 
The sources for those reports were the same as those quoted in the dossier on Trump, which included allegations that the Kremlin had personally compromising material on the US president, including sex tapes recorded during a trip to Moscow in 2013, and that Trump and his associates actively colluded with Russian intelligence to influence the election in his favour....

Steele left MI6 in 2009, to start up a commercial intelligence firm, Orbis, with a former colleague, Christopher Burrows. Soon after its founding, Orbis began working with Fusion GPS, a Washington-based company doing political and business research, which commissioned the investigation of Trump in 2016. 

Steele delivered a total of 16 reports to Fusion between June and early November 2016.... 

Steele flew to Rome in June [2016] to brief his FBI contact with whom he had shared his Fifa report, and returned in September to meet a full FBI team of investigators....They asked him to explain his methods and to pass on future reports."...

Added: Timeline: Nuland set up Steele to meet with FBI as an informant: In June 2016, an Obama State Dept. official, Victoria Nuland, while on the payroll of US taxpayers, set up a meeting between the FBI and foreign citizen and foreign business owner, Christopher Steele, who was also employed to obtain negative information about presidential candidate Donald Trump for the benefit of Mrs. Clinton's presidential campaign. Thus, Steele was in contact with US State Dept. personnel long before the now reported Oct. 2016 visit, whether in person or otherwise, in connection with his anti-Trump work. Ms. Nuland is reported to have known Steele from his 100+ reports on Russia and Ukraine completed for his UK firm Orbis which he had shared with the US State Dept. Per UK Guardian, Steele used the same sources for his anti-Trump dossier that he used for his Russia-Ukraine reports: "The sources for those reports were the same as those quoted in the dossier on Trump."

"Former British spy Christopher Steele visited the State Department in October 2016 and briefed officials there about his work on the infamous anti-Trump dossier, it was revealed on Wednesday.

“Based upon our review of the visitor logs at the State Department, Mr. Steele visited the State Department, briefing officials on the dossier in October 2016,” Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr said during a hearing held to review the U.S. government’s response to [alleged] Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Steele’s visit to Foggy Bottom in Washington, D.C., prior to the election has not been previously reported.

Burr revealed Steele’s visit during an exchange with Victoria Nuland, who served as assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs in former President Barack Obama’s administration.

Nuland was the State Department official who in late June 2016 signed off on a meeting between Steele and the FBI's legal attache in Rome. Nuland was familiar with Steele’s previous work on Russia- and Ukraine-related issues."...
