To so-called Republicans who want to change seats in hopes the Left and the media will like you, Commenters think you are pathetic

1/15/11, "Musical Chairs for the State of the Union Speech," American Thinker, by Joseph Smith

Republicans again allow the media and the Left to define them which is what forced the Tea Party into existence. We are supposed to be 2 bodies, it was never the issue that fights broke out if you people sat together. Did you suggest this when George Bush was being burned in effigy? Commenters (and probably likely voters) on this issue respond to the AT article on the topic:

Lisa Murkowski should be expelled from the Republican caucus. This is a person who said, if she lost in the primary she would accept it, who went back on her word and then ran a corrupt write in campaign using every trick she could muster from her corrupt daddy's old cronies to keep "her" seat. Will Republicans never wise up to RINOS? Expel her before she embarrasses you further by declaring for the other side ala Jeffords and Spector.

This is about making the president look like he has unity in the house. If the Republicans fall for this then they are idiots.

Several days ago I blogged on another site that this was all about the "optics". The next day Rush said the same thing on his show. The Dems don't want to appear as the obvious minority party. I imagine a number of the Supremes will skip the event. If the Dems are intermingled it will appear as though the whole room is applauding rather than 251 out of 535. The Repblicans should soundly reject this stupid idea and show some solidarity.

The democrats are redirecting the focus away from their failures again and their calculated partisanship with an "image" ploy that is devoid of reality. Is CHuck Schumer going to be any more likely to take a middle ground? He is the leader of the ubers and a staunch radical extremist who lead the Senate dem committees to be a partisan attack bunch. This is for tv viewing, if it was only carried on radio who would care? The dems will be jumping up and down as usual, but mixed in with the crowd will just fool those dupes who beleive this "why can't we all just get along" swill. Remember, Obama pledged to be non partisan. Has he done that yet? NO! The dems are not to be trusted. Never!

Keep the seating separate. Putting the two parties together will only mask how little support Obama has amongst the Congress.

IS THIS PART OF THE "NO LABELS" PUTSCH? Take a look at the @#$%'s that are going along with this on the right. Front and center is that senile liar Juan McCain. We should make phone calls to our reps and tell them we do not approve.

Makes it easier for Lisa to pass a note to the D's that says:

"Do you like me"
Yes
No
"Should I switch parties?"
Yes
No

Conservatives should take a play from the union play book, just call-in sick and boycott the State of the Union address. Is there a law that states it is mandatory that a member of the House or Senate be present?

Did Lisa Murkowski run as an independent? if so, why does she still have a Republican label. What confusing times we live in.

Just another sign of the stupidity with which our elected representatives on both sides are infected. Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. Posted by: Don L

This "let's all sit together and hold hands" behavior makes me wonder if they ever enforce the minimum age requirement for government service. Once agains the left calls the shots (it's prayer time now so don't return our foul barrage of dirty shots of a week a go) What saps we be, always acting like puppets to their string jerking.

I strongly disagree with the proposed silly symbolic gesture of the Congress and Senate fully mingling in a non-partisan way for the State of the Union. The American people need to be able to see exactly who supports obama's liberal agenda. Democrats and RINO's should not be allowed to hide amongst the rest of the congressional audience so they can applaud or wince basically without being observed.

"And the message that it sends is that even on a night when the President is addressing the entire nation, we in Congress cannot sit as one, but must be divided as two."

And that is exactly the correct message that needs to sent and understood, if I do say so myself. Posted by: RedStater

I've been a registered Republican ever since I was old enough to vote, but my party has become a bunch of simpering gullible spineless dhimwits and I'm getting sick of it. The GOP needs to man the hell up and stop falling for the oppositions dirty tricks. Are there no freaking sensible skeptics remaining or have they truly become the party of stupid?

Mitty - too funny, in a sad sort of way. Actually I'm thinking this is like a grade school prank wherein the Dems just want the Reps close enough that they can in essence pull the chair out from under them.

IF Conservatives do their job, there should be unmitigated hell 24 hours and day, 7 days a week. NO compromising. NO reaching across the isle. NO, let's make a deal. None. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being partisan if being partisan means fighting with every breath the evil that has slammed this country from the DemonRats, RINOs, and RepublicRats at such an accelerated rate for the last two years. Since all votes in Congress are either "Aye" or "Nay", why don't we do the Full Monty for bipartisanship, and let a computer do a random draw for each vote, with probabilities 50-50 for Aye and Nay. Then the members themselves could sit wherever they want and don't even have to worry about their votes. And all votes will tend to be "moderate' (near 50-50, with a bell-shaped curve). It would be a perfectly bipartisan world.

So, the democrats want the republicans to act as camouflage netting so the public won't see that their hatey-8 emplacements are merely empty pill boxes? Subterfuge and deception. Is anyone really surprised?

How about those Third Way garden slugs? This Third Way nonsense is nothing more than the Left's kinder, gentler communism. Theoretically, communism without all the mass murder and mass graves. They made their congressional minority, now they can sit in it. If the castrated and decrepit bull McCain wants to be led around by his nose ring, he can go sit with the rest of the communist lite's. It seems to be where he feels most comfortable. You lost John, WE won. As they say, elections have consequences. And as always, liberals are never the one's to accept the consequences of their actions. Or the voters actions, for that matter. Natch.
Is it true true Obama will have a 40 piece orchestra playing Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man as the background soundtrack for the Statist's of the Union speech?

This is a dangerous game, so I think. If the GOP gives in, it is the beginning of the end for the republic as we know it.

Dear Speaker Boehner, PLEASE do not fall for the Democrat plan of mixed seating at the SOTU. They are simply looking to hide amongst Republicans. They don't want to be easily seen standing/cheering (or NOT standing) for Obama's government expanding programs. They just came through a tough shellacking and are very worried about the next one coming, especially since there are far more Democrat senate seats to defend. They don't want their actions visible to their constituents, to the country. Also, I believe they want to distract the viewing citizens from the fact that some Supreme Court Justices won't show up. The Democrats want to hide amongst the Republicans. Please GOP. do not give them cover.

Like George Washington said when they wanted him to be King after the Revolutionary War. " "I didn¹t fight George III to become George I." We didn't vote one party tyrannical rule out to give the illusion of another. Please sit where you normally would. These people always have an ulterior motive. They are manipulative and to me it says, it's the government against the "little people." This is the message Soetoro is trying to send. I truly believe Obama and his operatives had something to do with this shooting. I think the sheriff played a part in it.

The one thing you can count on this year at the SOTU address will be the lack of an oil painting. You know, whenever GW made a valid point or highlighted an ambitious advancement during his speeches, the whole dem contingent resembled an oil painting.Even his late friend ol' Kennedy was either sitting on his hands or just plain refused to put his flask away. We are a democracy. We are a nation with a multiparty system. We are a nation with different and opposing political viewpoints. It is something to be celebrated and respected. We do not have to apologize for it. We do not have to hide it. In fact, it is important for Americans to see the distinction between the parties in regards to policies and their vision of and for America, even if it is communicated through ovation and silence. All Americans must feel they have representation, those in majority and those in the minority. The intermingling of the two parties blurs these distinctions, silences opposition, and it will transform the State of the Union Address into a propaganda stage.

We are the United States. This is not the Party General Secretary addressing the Communist Party Congress. I hope our representatives say no to this undemocratic suggestion. Stop focusing on tone and appearance and start looking at the substance of policy and addressing the many problems facing this nation. Posted by: KarlU

Baraq Obama claims that the Constitution, "Says what the Federal government can't do to you, but doesn't say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf..." Wrong-o, bucko: The Bill of Rights says what the Federal government can't do to you, and the Enumerated Powers say what the Federal government must do on your behalf. The ninth tenth amendments say that anything not covered in the Constitution's enumerated powers are left to the states, and the people, which, or who, are at liberty to devise their own solutions based on local preferences. That is the brilliant design that Baraq Obama wishes to "fundamentally change". It is outrageous, and he and his 'progressive' minions must be stopped before they do any more damage.

The Republican leadership had better start paying attention. The change in Congress was not because the voters suddenly fell in love with Republicans and Conservatives. It was because so many people became aware of Barry's destructive agenda and wanted to change it. Having Republicans sitting side by side with Democrats, holding hands and singing Kumbayah is not going to make very many people happy. Well except for Barry and his acolytes who will understand they have defeated the Republican yet again and can now continue with their socialist agenda.

DaveT, I am with you!!! If Republicans fall for this, not only are they idiots, it will send the TEA partiers like me over the edge and make us even more resolved to get the idiots out and representatives in there who will be the real party of NO!!! As I heard one TEA partier express, "We are peaceful, but we are determined." This fight is not over by any stretch of the imagination. Our patience is wearing very thin with socialist miscreants who lie, deceive, manipulate, and embezzle any and all trust. We will keep snapping at their heels until they get it right!!! Well...Leftoids are all about imagery, and it certainly would not do to visibly show the entire nation the results of the last election cycle in a very public way. I will be so disgusted if Republicans get sucked in to "kumbaya"!
