During the second semester of 2008, this center organized a colloquium to study whether it was appropriate to close schools in the face of a flu epidemic and to determine when such closure should be decreed and when to lift it. At that time there was no talk of declaring a general confinement of the entire population.

The main contribution was made by the British professor Neil Ferguson and the French researcher Simon Cauchemez, both from Imperial College London, who compared the statistical data of the closings of schools in Hong Kong in 2003 and 2008, of the provoked closure of schools in Israel due to the strike of educators in 2000, the impact of school vacations by areas in France from 1984 to 2006, the closure of schools infected with the flu in France in 1957 and statistics of the Spanish flu in certain cities from the United States and Australia in 1918. 

They also highlighted inequalities and injustices linked to school closings in the United Kingdom and the United States.

*In 2001, Neil was Ferguson who persuaded the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair to ordain sacrificing 6 million cattle to stop the epidemic of foot-[in-mouth disease, a] decision [that] cost 10 billion pounds sterling [translation of “10 000 millones de libras esterlinas”] and today consider an aberration. *In 2002, Neil Ferguson calculated that mad cow disease would kill around 50,000 people in the UK and 150,000 more when the disease was transmitted to sheep. There were actually 177 deaths.  

*In 2005, Neil Ferguson predicted that bird flu would cause 65,000 deaths in the UK. There were 457. 

Despite all of the above, Neil Ferguson became an advisor to the World Bank and numerous governments.

It was Neil Ferguson who, on March 12 [2020], sent French President Emmanuel Macron a confidential note in which he predicted half a million deaths in France. Very impressed, President Macron decided that same afternoon to order the general confinement of the French population. It was also Professor Neil Ferguson who publicly announced on March 16 that the United Kingdom would record 550,000 deaths–an announcement that forced the British government to revise its policy – and 1.2 million deaths for the United States. 

French researcher Simon Cauchemez, who until 2009 was Neil Ferguson’s right arm, today heads the modeling unit of the Pasteur Institute. Of course, Cauchemez is a member of the Scientific Committee established by the French presidency, where he proposed the general confinement of the population.

The Committee was created by Professor Jerome Salomon, Director General of Health, and also a spiritual son and former technical adviser to the aforementioned Bernard Kouchner. 

The influence of Neil Ferguson’s team is based on an intellectual swindle, according to which the so-called « mathematical biology » (sic) would justify the application of the liberal economic model to the management of health services.

The problem is that statistics to assess the effects of this or that measure, but only a posteriori….Statistics do not allow predicting the behavior of a living organism, in this case the behavior of a virus. You have to start by understanding that the “goal” of a virus is not to kill but only to spread. In other words, the virus does not intend to kill its carrier, nor to make a species disappear completely … simply because it would disappear with it.

In any case, extrapolating measures used to flu epidemics applying them to the current Covid-19 epidemic is something completely absurd: the flu affects a large number of children, which does not happen with Covid-19, which –speaking in demographic terms – mainly kills people of the so-called “third age”, diabetics and with hypertension problems. The viral load of children contaminated with Covid-19 is very light, so much so that it is not even known yet if they can become contagious. I mean 

On March 22, Professor Neil Ferguson acknowledged having made his calculations of the Covid-19 epidemic based on a database of influenza epidemics from 13 years ago. I mean 

In other words, it is no longer enough for this Western science guru to elaborate justifications for liberal policies applied to public health.Now he is also dedicated to advising the closure of entire populations.
