New Jersey truck driver Ed Durr beat Gov. Murphy's longtime enforcer Steve Sweeney in NJ Senate. In 20 years, NJ State Senator Sweeney has never broken 32,000 votes.…With 100% of precincts reporting, Durr leads with 32,742 votes to Sweeney’s 30,444. 51.8% to 48.2%. The Associated Press projected Durr the winner.

“New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy threw the first punch against [New Jersey State State]…Senator-elect Edward Durr. Durr defeated Murphy ally and prominent Democrat Steve Sweeney last week, unseating the powerful Democrat.
“This guy who is apparently winning is a dangerous guy,” [NJ Gov. Phil] Murphy said of the former truck driver who defeated Sweeney on a shoestring budget. “I want to be unequivocal: I do not welcome this in any way, shape, or form.”
Durr struck back.
“Governor Phil Murphy referring to anyone as dangerous is laughable. Murphy’s policies have made New Jersey the most-moved-out-of-state in the nation, closed one-third of our small businesses and killed 10,000 nursing home residents,” Durr said. “Phil Murphy’s words, despite being warned that people will die, killed senior citizens and he’s not the least bit sorry, even defending his actions in the first gubernatorial debate. Phil Murphy has yet to apologize for closing mom-and-pop shops permanently, destroying the lives of hard-working New Jerseyans and killing our elderly residents.”
He added, Murphy is far more dangerous than he could ever be.
“The fact is, Phil Murphy is far more dangerous than I could ever be. Nothing he has done has made New Jersey fairer or stronger. Unlike Murphy, I’m going to Trenton to help make New Jersey better for everyone in our state,” Durr added.”

Added: Ed Durr responds on Gloucester County GOP Facebook page, Gov. Murphy thinks Durr and Ciattarelli are both “dangerous”:
“LOGAN TOWNSHIP – Upon learning Governor Phil Murphy referred to Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli as “dangerous” for not conceding the election [to Murphy] and saying that Ciattarelli was acting in a manner that was “not what America is all about” state Senator-Elect Ed Durr reiterated his position that Phil Murphy is the dangerous guy.

Added: Instead of investigating Gov. Murphy’s nursing home death camps, Steve Sweeney blamed nursing home personnel. Sweeney’s solution: Proposed legislation that NJ personnel should be trained by CDC. Nursing homes aren’t hospitals, in fact don’t even have a lot of “nurses,” are mainly residences for wheelchair bound elderly people with dementia. Murphy’s order sending thousands of sick people to those homes guaranteed thousands of premature deaths with an especially cruel twist. People were forced to die alone, often believing their loved ones had abandoned them, because Murphy didn’t allow visitors in nursing homes at the time. From Edward Durr’s campaign website:
“Over 8k dead in our nursing homes, Steve Sweeney has decided that it must have been poorly educated & trained nurses that cause their deaths! NOT MURPHY? REALLY? Where was the investigation behind Murphy’s order to place sick patients into nursing homes Steve?
Here is Steve Sweeney’s tweet from @NJSenatePres
“Our bill, #S3031, would require the Board of Nursing to review the current nursing curriculum and clinical experience requirements and incorporate training from the @CDCgov to help deliver the best care possible for our seniors. 2/2″”

Sweeney, D-Gloucester, is expected to be ousted from the state Senate to a little-known Republican rival, Edward Durr. Sweeney has yet to concede the race against the political newcomer who spent little to campaign against him, though The Associated Press has projected the underdog the winner of the race….
“I want to be unequivocal,” Murphy added. “I do not welcome this in any way, shape or form. Steve has been a great partner, particularly over the past sort of two, two-and-a-half years. But at every step of the way we’ve gotten a ton done together. Steve has been outstanding.”
Despite both being Democrats, Murphy and Sweeney have long locked horns, especially during tense budget negotiations. Though both have denied publicly they’ve had an acrimonious relationship.
But the governor insisted Friday that Sweeney’s departure would be a tough pill to swallow and said he’s hoping enough remaining votes will come in to give Sweeney a win — an unlikely outcome.
“I’m very bummed and he deserves the space he needs to count every voter and I have my fingers crossed,” Murphy said. “And if it comes out the wrong way I bemoan it.”
With 100% of precincts reporting, [Durr leads with] 32,742 votes [to Sweeney’s] 30,444 — 51.8% to 48.2%.
If the outcome holds, the loss would end the longest state Senate presidency in New Jersey history and will significantly alter the political landscape in the Garden State.
It comes as Republicans saw an unexpected groundswell of support in Tuesday’s elections despite Democrats having more than 1 million more registered voters than Republicans in New Jersey.
No political insiders or pundits shared any concern about Sweeney losing his seat heading into the election.
“No one on God’s earth could have predicted that,” state Sen. Richard Codey, D-Essex, a former governor whom Sweeney ousted as Senate president 11 years ago, recently told NJ Advance Media.
N.J. ELECTION 2021: Local and state results
Sweeney was expected to be chosen by Senate Democrats for a seventh term before this loss — and was projected to be a possible candidate for governor in 2025.”
