“United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said Russia and China have “blood on their hands” after the two countries blocked a United Nations’ Security Council resolution that would have extended cross-border humanitarian aid to 4 million Syrians for another year.
“The Russian Federation’s and China’s veto yesterday of a Security Council resolution that allows for [cross border, ie, outside control of UN or Syria] humanitarian aid to reach millions [not to the whole of Syria, but mainly to Islamic terrorist-held areas] of Syrians is shameful,” Pompeo said in a statement on Saturday.
“To Russia and China, who have chosen to make a political statement by opposing this resolution, you have blood on your hands.”
Russia proposes own text
However, Syrian ally Russia only wanted to approve the two Turkish crossings for six months and had proposed its own draft text.
Russia and China vetoed the text while the remaining 13 members of the Security Council voted in favour. A resolution needs a minimum nine votes in favor and no vetoes by Russia, China, the US, Britain or France to pass….
In a bid to compromise with Russia, the Jordan crossing was dropped by Belgium, Kuwait and Germany from their draft. The current authorisation for the four border crossings in Turkey, Iraq and Jordan ends on January 10, so the Security Council could still attempt to reach an agreement, though some diplomats acknowledged this could now be difficult.”

Added: There would be zero hungry Syrians if the UN did its job and evicted the US from Syria immediately. In the meantime, the UN should annex a third of US land and declare it part of Syria. As to Russia, everyone knows Russia is the only reason its friend Syria still exists today in the face of 9 years of US backed invasions, billions in weapons shipped by a US led network into the hands of Islamic terrorist killers in Syria, and US illegal occupation of a third of Syrian land along with its oil and gas supplies. The gigantic CIA arms trade against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and India
Since the beginning of the Arab Spring, a gigantic arms trade has been organized by the CIA and the Pentagon in violation of numerous resolutions of the UN Security Council. All the operations that we are going to recap here are illegal under international law, including those organized publicly by the Pentagon.
In arms trafficking, even when individuals or private companies serve as screens, it is impossible to export sensitive materials without the consent of the governments concerned.
All the weapons we are going to talk about, except the electronic intelligence systems, are of the Soviet type [meaning made by Bulgaria as stated later in the article, as opposed to “NATO type” weapons]. By definition, even if it is claimed that armies equipped with NATO-type weapons are the final recipients of these deliveries, it is impossible. These armies are just used to cover the traffic.
We already knew that the CIA had called on the SIC and Boïko Borissov to make an emergency Captagon for the jihadists in Libya, then in Syria. Since the investigation of Maria Petkova published in Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), we knew that the CIA and SOCOM (Special Operations Command of the Pentagon) had bought for 500 million dollars of arms from Bulgaria, between 2011 and 2014, for the jihadists.
Then that other weapons were paid for by Saudi Arabia and the United
Arab Emirates and transported by Saudi Arabian Cargo and Etihad Cargo [ 2 ]. According to Krešimir Žabec of the Zagreb daily Jutarnji list, at the end of 2012, Croatia delivered 230 tonnes of weapons to Syrian jihadists worth $ 6.5 million. The transfer to Turkey was carried out by three Iliouchins of the Jordan International Air Cargo company, then the weapons were parachuted by the Qatari Army [ 3 ]. According to geographer Manlio Dinucci, it was mainly intended for the delivery of armored vehicles to Syria and Yemen [8].
According to Turkish journalists Yörük Işık and Alper Beler, the last contracts of the Obama era were carried out by Orbital ATK which organized, via Chemring and Danish H. Folmer and Co, a regular line between Burgas (Bulgaria) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). “Another fight over Syria currently occurs at the United Nations. The UN Security Council resolution 2165 is up for its yearly renewal. It regulates UN humanitarian aid access from third countries into various areas of Syria that at some point were not held by the Syrian government. Russia wants that it is changed to adapt to new circumstances especially in the northeast of Syria:
“We have [correctly] never been really enthusiastic about such thing as cross-border humanitarian operations, because it runs counter to basic UN principles of providing humanitarian assistance. Nevertheless, we went for it, because we had understanding that against the background that existed in Syria, such method of delivering humanitarian assistance to those who needed it was necessary. Now things have changed. The government of Syria is in control of the major part of the territory. Humanitarian assistance is delivered as per usual procedure – with consent of Damascus. Russia is also [justifiably] concerned that the aid flows to certain groups and not to those in need. [US freely states it will let children starve unless they live in terrorist held areas—so Russia is right]. It wants the current UN aid crossings into Syria’s northeast [illegally occupied by the Trump administration] to close down.
Parts of northeastern Syria are under control of Turkey and parts are under U.S. control with the help of the Kurdish YPG. But most of the area is now held by Syrian and Russian troops even while it continues to be under administrative control of the Kurds. The Syrian government wants to pressure the YPG Kurds to give up their control and to resubmit to the Syrian government.
It argues that aid to the area should flow through Syrian government controlled territory and should not come independently through Turkey or Iraq. It wants the aid to be distributed by the UN itself or through Syrian organizations and not through the illegitimate Kurdish administration which uses it to control the population.
Germany, Belgium and Kuwait, who wrote the current R2449 draft which is supposed to replace R2165, even want to open an additional fifth border crossing point from [terror supporting] Turkey into the area. They rejected the Russian demands. Russia then [correctly] threatened to veto the renewal of the resolution….
The decision on the issue was presumably postponed. The renewal of R2165 will be redrafted and a compromise may come up for a vote later today.”

humanitarian aid into Syria. These nations have hardly been impartial in their attitudes to, and their actions, against Syria. The
only nation that has the knowledge and information on the ground about
the areas in Syria that most need the aid is Syria itself. But
of course there’s no way the UN will ever listen to or take heed of what
Syria needs or proposes. Dare I say that in the times of greatest

Turkeys escalation in Lybia (in addition to the year+ long Idlib deal fiasco, and the Turkish invasions in coordination with Donald against Russia’s wishes) seems to have been the straw that broke the camels back.
The belief that Turkey would break ties with NATO was a laughable delusion anyway. Erdogan was always and will always play both sides to exploit them. And this he made skillfully.
So no total break of ties with Russia, but finally a more sobered up relation between Russia and Turkey. Muslim brotherhood extremists and state terrorists like Turkey will never fit into a close alliance with Russia. NATO and US on the other hand have no such qualms. Using Islamist extremism has on the contrary always been a US geopolitical tool.
So good that Russia’s political leadership now again pushes back against Erdogan and his minions, instead of betting on a pipe dream of appeasing Erdogan. He
is the last political leader on earth where appeasement would
work….Even though it was clear that this policy change would come after
Turkeys invasion, it still feels good its finally there.
