9/27/16, "50 Former Bush Administration Alums – Including Donald Rumsfeld – Endorse Trump," Daily Caller, Alex Pappas
"More than 50 alumni of the George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush GOP presidential administrations — including former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and White House press secretary Ari Fleischer — have formed a coalition to express support for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
It comes amid reports that George H.W. Bush might be voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the general election. Neither George W. Bush nor his brother, Trump primary rival Jeb Bush, have endorsed Trump in the race. Some former Bush administration officials, like former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, are backing Clinton.
Others who have joined the coalition include former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, former Treasury Secretary John Snow, former director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Bill Bennett, former White House political director Matt Schlapp and former Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi.
Here is the full list of those who joined the coalition.
The group is asking other former Bush officials to join them by filling out a form on a website. That petition cites the “need for bold leadership, a strong national defense, sound economic policy and a Supreme Court committed to preserve the freedoms framed in the Constitution.”
“Americans want to trust our leaders again, to know that they are fighting for everyday Americans by creating jobs, growing our economy, defending our nation from terrorism, and respecting the voters enough to be straightforward and honest with them,” said said former Health And Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson. “Donald Trump and Mike Pence will put America first, and make our country great again.”"
