8/1/16, "Pat Caddell: Pro-Clinton Media Bias Is a ‘Terrifying Crisis in Democracy’; ‘Clinton Foundation Is Literally a RICO Case Waiting’," Breitbart, John Hayward
"Allowing that the Democrat Party was
still nominally his own – he’s worked on Democrat campaigns stretching
back to the Carter era – (Pat) Caddell said he can’t believe how far it has
degenerated from the party of principle he remembers.
“A party which had before, Robert
Kennedy was able to stand up against Lyndon Johnson on the war in
Vietnam, along with many other brave senators, and congressmen, and
others, against among the most powerful presidents in history. They
stood up because principle mattered,” he recalled. “I can go through and
give you chapter and verse, in the Democratic Party, of where principle
has come before politics.”
But now, he said, “there was a pall
hanging over the Democratic convention – that pall was corruption. Not
mentioned, never discussed, just like the Clinton Foundation was never
mentioned as a great plus.”
Caddell said the Democrats were
clearly afraid to broach the subject of corruption: “She didn’t. Bill
Clinton didn’t talk about it. Nobody did. It never came up.”
Of course, the mainstream media did not see fit to remark on that deficiency of the Democratic National Convention.
“This is the crisis of democracy –
the mainstream media, which is in the tank, in the most violent way,
against Donald Trump and for Hillary Clinton, that I have ever seen in
the 45 years that I have been at the top of presidential politics,”
Caddell exclaimed. “And it is terrifying. It’s not what they’re telling
us, it’s what they’re omitting to tell us. Not that they’re just for
Hillary, and telling us that Trump is evil, and my God, no human being
could possibly vote for him. It is what they are omitting, the facts
that they will not tell the American people.”
He advised Trump to hammer the issue,
“case by case, of corruption and its influence on the screwing of the
middle class, and all classes in this country. The Clinton Foundation is
literally a RICO case waiting, and nobody will say anything. She can
get away with anything, because this whole system is corrupt.”
Caddell brought a particular instance
of media bias to Bannon’s attention, something he ranked among the most
outrageous examples he had ever seen: the rigging of a Reuters poll to
move Hillary Clinton back into the lead.
Caddell allowed that the type of poll
in question, an overnight “tracking poll” with a very small sample of
voters, is “inherently statistically problematic.” In the Reuters poll,
Trump had been “steadily rising – and they became, obviously, alarmed.”
“They went back, and they changed the
way they were asking their questions. Not only did they say, ‘we don’t
think we’re doing this right,’ and make a forward-going change, which
they call ‘tweaking.’ They made a change that went back and change the
numbers that they had already reported last week, and then ‘disappeared’
all of their previous results,” Caddell said.
“This was an act to put her ahead,”
he charged. “They had a poll that had three different numbers, by the
way. They did not play up the fact that the four-way race was one point,
even with their new ‘tweaking,’ or that they had another result of
three,” he charged, referring to polls that included third-party
candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. “They went with this five-point
shift, and they went back and made almost a nine-point shift in the
results, from the 26th, which was Monday, and a five-point shift in the
results that were Sunday, and changed those numbers.”
“Never in my life have I ever seen this. They were cooking the
numbers. Cooking them,” Caddell exclaimed. “All of the media believes
the American people are yokels, and that they are fools, and they’re
there to be manipulated, so that they – the press, the better people –
can set the tone.”
“It’s like what you saw in Europe on
Brexit,” he said. “Polling is a complicated business at this point, for
many reasons, which we don’t have time for. But when you go, and you
decide, ‘My God, we can’t report those results,
it’s helping Trump,’ so that in order to do it, you have to cook your
numbers, and your polling – and you can do it in so many ways, you can
do it in the way you ask the questions, the sequencing, whatever. But to
just go back and say, ‘we’ll take these people out, and give them to her,’ is unbelievable. And that’s what it appears they’ve done, to me, as I’ve been able to dig it out.”
Caddell issued a public request that
the American Association of Public Opinion, which he described as “an
association of, basically, academics that is supposed to monitor, and
has only once in its history actually censured anyone,” investigate the
Reuters poll.
However, he expected that the
Association would “turn their heads too, because in this country,
integrity and truth have now fallen behind. Our obligation to citizens
has fallen behind the obligation to your political ambitions, or party.
No one will speak out.”"
