When 'science' is used to drive public policy

Comment to Dot Earth, 12/30/10 and 1/4/2011, "On Warming, Antarctica, Clouds and Peer Review," Andy Revkin

#4. "Andy,

You praise peer review but ignore it fatal flaws. Specifically, there are no ethical standards regarding conflict of interest when it comes to peer review and the
  • anonymity of reviewers means they are never held accountable.
Such standards may have been good enough when scientists were talking among themselves but
  • when science is being used to drive public policy
the public has a right to demand much
  • higher standards of disclosure.
  • It is time for change."
