At one time politicians would expose hucksters and zealots. Today, politicians talk them up and give them money. For example, UK pol Ed Davey says newspapers and broadcasters shouldn't allow climate sceptics a platform

6/3/13, "The Intolerance of Climate Change Zealots," IainDale.com

"This evening on my LBC show we discussed Ed Davey’s outrageous idea that newspapers and broadcasters should refrain from giving a platform to climate change sceptics. How very ‘liberal’ of him. I remember at 18 Doughty Street back in 2007 I phoned Greenpeace to invite them to take part in a panel discussion on climate change. They refused on the basis that the argument was won and there was nothing to debate. It’s attitudes like this that make me very suspicious of this climate change industry, which is supported by people whose fanaticism borders on the religious.

The very same people who warned the world in the 1980s about the coming nuclear apocalypse are now warning about the end of the planet.

In the 1980s we had politicians who were able to expose these zealots for what they were.

We now have cabinet ministers who go along with them and give them money.

And have the cheek to tell people on radio stations that they shouldn’t be providing platforms for climate change sceptics. Ed Davey agreed to come on my show tonight – first in the studio, then by ISDN, then on the phone, first at 620, then at 630, then at 720. Then not at all. A meeting, apparently. It happens. But if any of his staff were listening, they might have been rather worried to discover than with one exception, every caller expressed some degree of scepticism about global  warming. I’d say that proves that the argument is far from won and that people like Ed Davey need to up their game. He’d probably say they were all brainwashed by a climate change sceptical media. of course.

Talking of brainwashing, here’s a text we received from Justin. Justin is a geography teacher. This is what he had to say.

"Until two years ago I used to teach both sides of the climate change debate and invite students to discuss the issue and reach their own conclusions based on the evidence available, I have now been stopped from doing this – apparently it confuses the students. I am now only allowed to teach the “climate change is real” evidence. So therefore I have moved to teaching students WHAT to think, rather than to THINK for themselves using the evidence available."

How chilling is that? Now, I have no evidence that what Justin says is true, but it certainly has the ring of truth about it. Can anyone enlighten us? Is this really the case? Who gave the orders? I feel a little cause coming on….

UPDATE: For the avoidance of doubt I don’t deny the existence of climate change or global warming. Nor do I deny that part of it is due to man made influences. But I do deny that the debate is over about the actual extent of man’s influence. Climate change has happened since time immemorial. That, it is safe to assume, is something surely everyone can agree on." via Tom Nelson

Pres. Obama denies overwhelming judgment and consensus of scientists that global temperatures haven't risen since 1998 and that US CO2 has plunged

President Obama says “scientific consensus” and “overwhelming judgment of science must determine US government decisions. On Wednesday, 5/29/13 he said, “we also know that the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.”…

7 scientific citations posted below dispute Mr. Obama's claims. The overwhelming scientific consensus says the planet completely stopped warming 15 to 17 years ago. Further, US CO2 has plunged during this time while global CO2 has increased. Charts from UK Met office (Der Spiegel) and University of Reading UK (The Economist) follow:

Then global warming would pause 20 years.”Der Spiegel

There is valid science about CO2 and there is consensus. Mr. Obama just ignores both of them:

5/30/13, “Obama Doesn’t ‘Have Much Patience’ For Climate Change Deniers,” TPM, Tom Kludt

“President Barack Obama said Wednesday at a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago that...he doesn’t have “much patience” for those who refuse to accept the scientific consensus on climate change. Obama warned donors that the climate is warming at an accelerated rate, and that while the dangers may not be readily apparent, they are still severe.

“But the flipside is we also know that the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.”…

100 selfish ski resorts team up with corporate cronies to demand the poor pay extra for "climate action." Elitists in the most greenhouse-gas-intensive activity in the world care so much they demand higher energy prices which always hit the poor the hardest

5/31/13, "Green Weenie of the Week: The Downhill Skiing Industry," Powerline, Steven Hayward

"Talk about going downhill fast: 100 ski resorts have signed on to a Climate Declaration calling for “action” on climate change.  In typical hokum, this declaration suggests that “climate action” represents “one of America’s greatest economic opportunities”–a claim about as credible as a women’s Spandex apparel concession in Saudi Arabia.

This deserves a whole case of Green Weenies, along with the buns.  My old partner-in-climate-crime Ken Green of the Fraser Institute in Canada beats down as only he can:

"Now this is corporate cronyism at its finest: ski resorts and corporations asking for climate change legislation. With respect to my skiing friends…

Skiers use energy to haul mass uphill, only to slide back down hill, over and over again. They fly or drive long distances to get to places that are cold (requiring heated facilities). While there, they consume goods that are hauled long-distances and up hill. The perishable goods have to be refrigerated (think about that for a minute). Virtually everything they wear (and their gear) is made from petroleum. From a thermodynamic perspective, you would have a hard time designing a more greenhouse-gas-intensive activity than skiiing. Vanity space flight, perhaps.

But the companies involved would like some green-washing courtesy of the government: they want legislation that would let them claim they’re doing good (“We’re paying our carbon tax!”) when in reality, they’ll pass their direct costs onto the skiiers (who can afford it), while the majority of the costs of carbon control imposed on the general public would land squarely on the poor, who are most affected by high energy prices.""

NOAA scientists in 2008 said 15 years of no warming would prove climate predictions and models invalid. Scientists write to UN Sec. Gen.: "Global warming that has not occurred cannot have caused the extreme weather of the past few years."

134 scientists wrote to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in Dec. 2012 disputing his claims about climate warming and asking him to desist from alarmist and exploitative statements. The scientists cited NOAA's 2008 statement that 15 years without warming would invalidate methods that claimed rising CO2 would cause a corresponding rise in temperatures. NOAA citation in letter followed by NOAA text:

Coal will be world's leading energy source by 2017 for every region in the world except the US-IEA

Jan. 2013, "China's Soaring Coal Consumption Poses Climate Challenge," ClimateWire, Daniel Cusick

"Chinese coal consumption surged for a 12th consecutive year in 2011, with the country burning 2.3 billion tons of the carbon-emitting mineral to run power plants, industrial boilers and other equipment to support its economic and population growth.

In a simple but striking chart published on its website, the U.S. Energy Information Administration plotted China's progress as the world's dominant coal-consuming country, shooting past rival economies like the United States, India and Russia as well as regional powers such as Japan and South Korea.

In fact, according to EIA, 325-million-ton increase in Chinese coal consumption in 2011 accounted for 87 percent of the entire world's growth for the year, which was estimated at 374 million tons.

Since 2000, China has accounted for 82 percent of the world's coal demand growth, with a 2.3-billion-ton surge, the agency said.

"China now accounts for 47 percent of global coal consumption -- almost as much as the rest of the world combined," EIA said of the latest figures.

The rising consumption numbers reflect a 200-plus percent increase in Chinese electricity generation since 2000, with most of the new power coming from coal-fired power plants. Chinese growth averaged 9 percent per year from 2000 to 2010, more than twice the 4 percent global growth rate for coal consumption. And when China is excluded from the tally, growth in coal use averaged only 1 percent for the rest of the world over the 2000-2010 period, according to EIA....

In its latest projections on global coal demand, issued last month, IEA said that by 2017 coal will come close to surpassing oil as the world's leading energy source, with every region of the world except the United States relying more heavily on the carbon-intensive energy resource.
In fact, the world will burn around 1.2 billion more tons of coal per year in 2017 than it does today -- an amount equal to the current coal consumption of Russia and the United States combined, IEA noted.

In a December commentary for the Huffington Post, IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven described the world's quickening pace of coal consumption as a "troubling paradox" given international efforts to address global climate change, which many scientists link to the accumulation of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from the burning of coal."....

Everyone knows global CO2 is skyrockting, that US CO2 could go to zero and it wouldn't help. This outcome has been known since the beginning of the CO2 scam decades ago. It's all been for nothing except genocide of the US and a lot of money:

5/8/13, "Jack Mintz: Canada unfairly Gored," Financial Post opinion

"If climate policies have any effect, they must be achievable at the global level. It makes little sense for advanced countries to take on policies that hurt their own economic growth if environmental benefits are unattainable.

Such failure seems to be the case with China, Russia and others where carbon emissions are sharply on the rise. It is almost as if the Western countries are digging ditches, only to see them filled up by emerging countries following up from behind."

13 years after the end of snow, people are skiing in Spain in June-Mead

6/1/13, "The End of Snow, 13 Years On," Walter Russell Mead, The American Interest

"In 2000, the British newspaper The Independent
ran an article about the end of snow, quoting one of the world’s more prominent climate scientist like so:
According to Dr. David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.
“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.

13 years later, people are skiing in Spain in June.

This should not be taken as proof there is no global warming, but it is very clear proof indeed that green experts don’t understand climate change nearly as well as they think they do. And given that their track record on developing workable policies to address climate change is even worse than their record at predicting the weather, we are not surprised that greens find it harder and harder to get traction for big, complicated and expensive laws that somehow never perform as advertised....

In any case, happy skiing to our friends in the Pyrenees, and best summer wishes to our UK friends putting a hard and snowy winter behind them. And we wish the global greens a happy summer of announcing every heat wave as proof that the climate disaster is already here—until winter returns and they go back to telling us, correctly, that “weather isn’t climate.”"
