The world pretends it's free, but one man drives it all, Ben Bernanke. And the media report about this as if it were normal-Joanne Nova

6/21/13, "The Ben Factor. One man drives a market. The world pretends it is “free”." joannenova.com

"How much is that company worth? You can look at its PE, debt, market spread, sovereign risk, and discounted cash flow, but in the end, it’s the Ben Factor (BF) which dominates all companies, metal prices, and sovereign currencies in the West.

The Ben hath spoken, and said that in future, if the economy is looking better, he might slow the printing of $85 billion US dollars a month, some indefinite non-specified day. All that was … obvious. But, world-wide investors and traders hang off the words, trying to second-guess what the BF banality implies. No one will say it, but everyone knows that it the rate of the flow of easy cash so much as slows, all hell will break loose. Balanced on this thin veneer of pretense, stocks, metals and whole national currencies change direction within minutes....

Respected commentators in the mainstream media report these events with straight faces, as if it is normal that economic activity in a free market depends on the King-maker-called-Ben. A bureaucrat. Millions of investors have effectively stopped assessing company profits, and they place bets instead on money supply. Will The Ben keep printing money at the same rate? Will it get harder to get loans? Will consumers stop buying things they don’t really need? Will consumers just stop? Can the BF manage an exponential rise with tweaks and announcements, opening the flow of the IV drip while telling the patient he is using less medication? How long will the placebo effect keep working?

The Dow, the S&P500, the ASX, TSX, FTSE have all become giant roulette wheels, but people stopped betting on the roll of the dice, and bet instead on whether the dice have six sides and six numbers. They bet on what the croupier will do next. How is his mood? Will he keep using the dice with three sixes, or switch back to the one with two? Will he say he’s using the slower dice, but secretly roll a more loaded one? Who checks the dice?

In an economy where supply and demand are known to be the key drivers of every price, no one utters the phrase that must not be spoken: “money supply”. No one discusses monetary aggregates. The US Fed tells us they are so irrelevant that they even stopped publishing the large aggregate known as “M3″ a few years ago. No one in the mainstream complained.

In the West we have a paper-based financial economy and trust banks and government, more or less. The Western media hail the bureaucrats at central banks who set interest rates as heroes. (Central planners in the Soviet Union were also hailed as heroes by their press — but how could that possibly be relevant, eh?)

The big unspoken charade continues.

PS: The Ben apparently is on the way out. Who will be the next Ben? You can vote &; “Other” &; “Ron Paul” like I did. Go on. Poke them." via Climate Depot

Denial of Northern European climate by Obama and his staff contributed to his poor, sweaty speech in Berlin observes climate commenter

6/20/13, "Barack Obama bombs in Berlin: a weak, underwhelming address from a floundering president," UK Telegraph, Nile Gardiner

"Obama sounded more like the president of the European Commission than the leader of the free world. It is never a good sign when a US president parrots the language of a Brussels bureaucrat when he is supposed to be a champion of freedom. Obama’s distinctly unimpressive speech in Berlin was another dud from a floundering president whose leadership abroad is just as weak as it is at home. (end of article)...

In stark contrast to that of his presidential predecessors, Barack Obama’s message on Wednesday was pure mush, another clichéd “citizens of the world” polemic with little substance. This was a speech big on platitudes and hopeless idealism, while containing much that was counter-productive for the world’s superpower. Ultimately it was little more than a laundry list of Obama’s favourite liberal pet causes, including cutting nuclear weapons, warning about climate change, putting an end to all wars, shutting Guantanamo, ending global poverty, and backing the European Project. It was a combination of staggering naiveté, the appeasement of America’s enemies and strategic adversaries, and the championing of more big government solutions.

There was little in this speech that advances US interests, or makes the world a safer place. Completely missing from Obama’s address was a call for the West to stand up to the rising threat of Islamist militancy, the defence of Christians facing huge levels of persecution and intimidation in the Middle East, strong condemnation of Iran and North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, and any criticism of growing authoritarianism in Russia. The president paid lip service to the NATO alliance, which has proved critical in preserving Europe’s security for over 60 years, but made no call for the alliance to be strengthened in the wake of waning support and investment in Europe."...

China has more proven oil and gas reserves than the US per EIA

6/18/13, "The Global Race for Shale Development Is On," Casey Research, Marin Katusa

"Guess who the US Energy Information Agency (EIA) says has 430% more proven gas reserves than the US?

Guess who has twice as much as the US in shale gas technically recoverable? Guess who has over twice as much proven oil reserves as the US?

The EIA recently published a 730-page report which assesses the shale formations of 41 countries.

The global race for shale development has started. Countries that are not now known for their oil and gas production are showing much shale oil and gas promise.

Would you be surprised to know that China has more proven oil reserves than the US?...

If you thought the US was the king of shale, we are sorry to burst your bubble… it no longer wears the crown."...via Zero Hedge

CJR supposed critique of Gleick omits that he was Chairman of the AGU Ethics Task Force, focuses instead on CJR author's personal belief in AGW hypothesis

CJR's web page states: "Strong Press, Strong Democracy"

3/1/12, "Heartland, Gleick, and Media Law," CJR, Curtis Brainard (Brainard is "editor of The Observatory, CJR's online critique of science and environment reporting.") "Experts weigh in on leaks and deceptive tactics"

The topic is deception but CJR waits until the 9th paragraph to mention in passing that Gleick held a position related to ethics which he resigned after his confession. That description by CJR might even be described as deceptive. CJR says, "He resigned from the American Geophysical Union’s scientific ethics committee." CJR kindly allows a commenter to fill readers in on the fact that Gleick wasn't just "on the ethics committee:"

"#1 Posted by Mike H on Thu 1 Mar 2012 at 02:46 PM

"There’s a phrase for what Gleick did: wire fraud. Whether or not he is indicted on it is another story, but its pretty clear cut.

All the more ironic considering Gleick was the chairman of the American Geophysical Union ethics taskforce. But the spin on this is nice: the ends justify the means."

-------------------

CJR devotes the all important early part of the article to the topic of AGW rather than the crime. The author even states--incorrectly--that AGW exists and that Heartland (which operates on pennies compared to the billions of US tax dollars confiscated to prop up the global warming industry including academic institutions) is in effect perpetrating a life-threatening lie.

Accordingly, to CJR it's key that some of the documents were "authentic." CJR also frames the victim as perpetrating a fraud, since according to CJR, AGW exists:

"In the process, it (Heartland) implicitly acknowledged the authenticity of the others, which revealed, among other things, a plan to create a “global warming curriculum for K-12 schools” that would teach students—incorrectly—that “there is a major controversy over whether or not humans are changing the weather.”

CJR doesn't mention that Gleick functions on US taxpayer dollars via EPA and other grants or that the organization he robbed was private and not reliant on taxpayer millions and billions as Gleick is.

CJR fails to mention that Gleick functioned as an adviser to the US government as a representative of the multi-trillion dollar 'climate' industry that is financed world wide mainly be government confiscation of tax dollars. He spoke before the US Senate in 2007 and said our industry was the cause of catastrophic man made global warming.

CJR doesn't wonder why Gleick hasn't been arrested. In fact, they say no one can say a crime has been committed:

"That said, there is no law that prohibits individuals from misrepresenting themselves except in very specific situations (many states have, for instance, made it a crime to impersonate a police officer). Neither, to the best of Levine’s knowledge, is there a law that says it is a crime or a civil wrong for somebody to impersonate another for the purpose of getting information to disseminate to third parties, whether it’s the public or the press, except in very specific situations." (p.2)
and

"For now, it’s impossible to say whether or not Gleick violated any law, though Heartland certainly alleges that he did." (p. 3)

2012 Greenland ice melt due to jet stream, not human climate change, International Journal of Climatology, RMS study. Possible flaw in UN IPCC computer model cited. Unusual 2012 wet UK weather also due to jet stream, not humans says study

Abstract: "2012 seems not to be climatically representative of future ‘average’ summers projected this century."

6/17/13, "Greenland Ice Sheet Had Record Melt In 2012 Due To Jet Stream," redorbit.com, Lee Rannals

"According to University of Sheffield research, published in the International Journal of Climatology unusual Jet Stream changes were behind record surface melt of the Greenland Ice Sheet last summer.

The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) experienced a record surface melting in the summer of 2012, with more than 90 percent of the ice-sheet surface melting as of July 11, 2012. That was nearly double the previous record loss seen in 2010, when 52 percent of the GrIS surface had melted.

The team was able to confirm the record melting by using computer model simulations and satellite data. They also analyzed weather station data from on top of and around the ice sheet, showing several new high Greenland temperature records were set last summer.

The study showed that the record surface melting of the ice sheet was mainly caused by highly unusual atmospheric circulation and Jet Stream changes, which also caused last year’s unusually wet weather in England. The analysis showed that ocean temperatures and Arctic sea-ice cover were relatively unimportant factors that helped lead to the record melting.

“The GrIS is a highly sensitive indicator of regional and global climate change, and has been undergoing rapid warming and mass loss during the last 5-20 years,” said lead researcher Professor Edward Hanna from the University of Sheffield’s Department of Geography. “Much attention has been given to the NASA announcement of record surface melting of the GrIS in mid-July 2012. This event was unprecedented in the satellite record of observations dating back to the 1970s and probably unlikely to have occurred previously for well over a century.”

He said they found that a “heat dome” of warm southerly winds over the ice sheet led to widespread melting. These Jet Stream changes did not show up in an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) computer model, which could indicate a flaw in this model.

“According to our current understanding, the unusual atmospheric circulation and consequent warm conditions of summer 2012 do not appear to be climatically representative of future ‘average’ summers predicted later this century,” said Hanna. “Taken together, our present results strongly suggest that the main forcing of the extreme GrIS surface melt in July 2012 was atmospheric, linked with changes in the summer North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), Greenland Blocking Index (GBI, a high pressure system centered over Greenland) and polar jet stream which favored southerly warm air advection along the western coast.”...

“Because such atmospheric, and resulting GrIS surface climate, changes are not well projected by the current generation of global climate models, it is currently very hard to predict future changes in Greenland climate,” the researcher said. “Yet it is crucial to understand such changes much better if we are to have any hope of reliably predicting future changes in GrIS mass balance, which is likely to be a dominant contributor to global sea-level change over the next 100-1000 years.”

Scientists have been trying to determine what led to the 50-year-record ice melt in Greenland. In April a team of scientists wrote in the journal Nature that they determined that the ice melt could be due to thin cloud cover.

Clouds are still one of the greatest uncertainties in climate models. Even though the current climate models are generally correct, we need better measurements to improve them,” Von P. Walden, principal investigator for the ICECAPS project, said in an NSF statement in April. “We’re doing this to avoid future surprises, and we need to expand our knowledge of the details of how the climate operates.”" via Tom Nelson

Latest global CO2 emissions: US emissions reductions negated by China:

6/10/13, "US Carbon Dioxide Emissions Fall as Global Emissions Rise," Cato.org, Paul C. 'Chip' Knappenberger

"Notice that the U.S. is far and away the leader in reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, while China primarily is responsible for pushing global CO2 emissions higher. In fact, CO2 emissions growth in China more than offsets all the CO2 savings that we have achieved in the U.S."

Chart from IEA report, p. 2

11/29/12, 134 scientists write to UN Sec. Gen., ask him to desist from blaming climate disasters on global warming that hasn't happened: "Global warming that has not occurred cannot have caused the extreme weather of the past few years."

China controls world CO2.

8/16/12, “AP IMPACT: CO2 emissions in US drop to 20-year low,” AP, Kevin Begos

In a surprising turnaround, the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere in the U.S. has fallen dramatically to its lowest level in 20 years and government officials say the biggest reason is that cheap and plentiful natural gas has led many power plant operators to switch from dirtier-burning coal.

Many of the world's leading climate scientists didn't see the drop coming in large part because it happened as a result of market forces rather than direct government action against carbon dioxide."...

$18.5 billion worth of climate regulations were issued in 2012 alone. Without congress. "The vast majority of “laws” governing the United States are not passed by Congress but are issued as regulations."

"In 2011, the US Congress passed a total of 81 new “laws” while government agencies issued 3,807 new regulations." So you see, congress is irrelevant.

More Obama executive action: 6/12/13, "Obama Quietly Raises ‘Carbon Price’ as Costs to Climate Increase," "Buried in a little-noticed rule on microwave ovens is a change in the U.S. government’s accounting for carbon emissions that could have wide-ranging implications for everything from power plants to the Keystone XL pipeline. The increase of the so-called social cost of carbon, to $38 a metric ton in 2015 from $23.80, adjusts the calculation the government uses to weigh costs and benefits of proposed regulations. The figure is meant to approximate losses from global warming such as flood damage and diminished crops."

==============================

News of US CO2 plunge has been described as:

 =============================

A May 2013 CBO report commissioned by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Ca.) states US on its own has little effect on global climate:

p. 14: "Acting on its own, the United States could have only a modest effect on the amount of warming."

May 2013 CBO report,"Effects of a Carbon Tax on the Economy and the Environment

================================

The May 2013 Waxman commissioned report also says further US CO2 reductions will be meaningless, that global emissions won't improve without significant reductions from countries like China and India (page 14, left column), and that any further US CO2 reductions:

p. 14, "would be offset by increases in emissions overseas—."...

==============================

5/31/13, "Science in the Service of Ideology: The National Climate Assessment," Norman Rogers, American Thinker

"(Incidentally, the phrase "extreme weather" did not begin to appear frequently in New York Times articles until around 2010, when it was starting to become clear that global warming had really stopped, at which point the global warming story was changed to the extreme weather story.)"...

==============================

Global Warming ‘action’ was mandated and institutionalized in US government in 1990 by George Bush the 1st in theU.S. Global Change Research Act of 1990.CO2 reduction is mentioned near the end in Sec. 204, item 4.

Devoting 13 federal agencies to ‘climate’ matters is hardly lagging in “action.”

Trillions have been taken from US taxpayers for climate endeavors via agency budget allocations, tax subsidies, diversion of US military to climate or green projects, countless federal regulations, vast sums shipped out in no strings foreign aid for ‘climate’ capacity building, etc.

Other countries’ CO2 hasn’t dropped despite hundreds of billions spent on cap and trade and extra taxes. This isn’t to say the US government hasn’t become business partners with the ‘climate’ industry.

Obama takes executive 'climate action' in Nov. 2012  by giving $6 billion US taxpayer dollars for 'clean energy' to the Sultan of Brunei who owns 5000+ cars and to the Pres. of Indonesia, whose country is so corrupt even the World Bank says crime adds 20% to costs.
